Free Online File Converters May Install Malware On Your PC – FBI Warning!

Instead of just converting files, these tools secretly install harmful software on your computer. The dangerous part is that this software may look like a real app and seem to work as expected. However, it can steal your personal information, track your activities, or even lock your computer and demand money to unlock it.

There are many file formats available for different purposes. The most common ones are Documents (PDF, DOC), Images (JPG, PNG), Video (MP4, AVI), and Audio (MP3, AAC). With almost everything happening (converting) online, you never know which format you require at a given point in time. And this is where free online file converters come into play. For example, if someone asks you to submit your ID in a PDF format, what would you do? The answer is – Click the photo of the ID using the mobile camera, convert the image (JPG format to PDF) using any online converter, and send the PDF to the person.

Most people do not realize the mess they have gotten into with the above steps. Let me explain-

  1. You have uploaded your ID to an unknown server where it can be misused, causing Identity Theft. You also do not know when the ID image will be deleted from the online converter’s server.
  2. The converted PDF file you have downloaded may consist of a hidden malware that may provide a backdoor access to your PC.
  3. The downloaded file may also contain elements that may lead to a Ransomware attack.

The FBI Denver Field Office has recently issued a warning on its official website asking people to stay alert of the free online file converter scams. Some of you might think that these free online converters are harmless and are doing a free community service. But that is not true! In this article, we have explained what the dangers of online converters are, how they work and what alternatives are available.

FBI Warning

How Do Online File Converters Work?

Free online converters help users convert one file format to another. The process is simple and requires the user to upload a file to the server of the online web tool. The next step is to choose the format to convert and then download the converted file. The process is simple, but here is where the complexity begins. Most free online converter websites embed malware into the converted file. This malware, once downloaded on your PC or mobile device, begins its work of scraping data and sending it to a malicious or threat actor.

Bonus Tip – Use The Virus Total Website To Identify Malicious Websites.

Navigate to the Virus Total Website.

Choose the URL tab and paste the link of a website you wish to use.

Press the Enter button and examine the report.

For example, we checked a famous converter site – http://convertix-api.xyz/ on Virus Total.

We found the website to be reported as malicious.

What Type Of Data Does The Malware Look For?

Hidden malware may not necessarily affect your system’s performance, but it will start accessing your data and transferring it to the hacker or mastermind behind this. Here is a list of data that is at risk –

  • Email addresses.
  • PII or Personal Identifying Information, which includes your Social Security Number, date of birth, and mobile number.
  • Credentials of banking and crypto wallets.
  • Other Usernames and Passwords, including cookies, session tokens, etc, that can help hackers bypass the Multi-Factor Authentication.

New Methods Of Malware Infiltration By Hackers.

Methods Of Malware Infiltration By Hackers

The FBI Denver has also warned about the different methods of hacking attempted by cyber criminals. Here are a few examples.

  • Online Converter websites may tempt the user to download free software from their website for batch conversions. This software may contain malware.
  • Certain online converter websites recommend that users install a browser extension to make things easier. Many extensions have been found to act as browser hijackers or adware.
  • The converted file requested by the user is injected with malware that steals information from all the PCs it has been downloaded to or sent to. Even worse, the file may infect your PC with Ransomware.
Editor’s Tip – Why Are Offline Converters Better Than Online Converters?

Offline File Converters apps get installed on your PC and can work even if the PC is not connected to the internet. These apps can source any file on your hard drive, external disk, or network drive, complete the conversion process, and save the file on your PC. There is no risk of the file being uploaded anywhere or shared with anyone. Finally, as there is no internet connection required and the conversion process is done on your PC, any risk of malware being downloaded on your PC is nullified.

Alternatives To Risky Online Converters – Use Offline Converters.

The best possible solution to Online File Converters is to use Offline File Converters or apps that can convert files for you on your PC. This way you do not have to upload your confidential files to a random server or download any file from anywhere. We recommend that you use trusted apps or software from well-known developers after reading the reviews and doing a bit of research.

If you ask us then we have done a bit of research with regards to document converters. Most people are looking to convert documents and images to PDF and vice versa. You can do this easily using three alternatives.

1. Use Systweak PDF Editor – Systweak PDF Editor is a new and budget-friendly software that provides all sorts of document conversions. The document conversion functionality in Systweak PDF Editor is both powerful and user-friendly. It supports converting PDF files into popular formats such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and high-resolution images, as well as more specialized formats like HTML, EPUB, SVG, XPS, and text files.

It goes one step further and allows users to extract tables from a PDF to an Excel sheet or just extract images from a PDF to a folder. On the other hand, this app provides over 30 modules for editing a PDF, including digital signature, Password protection, and OCR. The best part is that this app has a user-friendly UI and is cost-effective compared to others.

Systweak PDF editor

  • Edit, Annotate, Print, Protect PDF, And More.
  • Add Images, Notes, Callouts, Bookmarks, Page Numbers, Digital Signature, Etc.
  • Split, Merge, Add, And Delete Pages, Rotate, And Arrange Pages In A PDF
  • Compress, Convert PDF Into Any Format, And Vice Versa.
  • Fix corrupted or damaged PDF files
  • Perform OCR and Create Forms on PDF.

2. Use Microsoft Word – If you have an Office subscription, then you probably will get MS Word along with it. You can use this app to open PDF files and convert documents into PDFs. There are many ways of using this app and you can even convert multiple images to PDF by pasting the images on a DOC and exporting it as a PDF.

Note : If you do not have an Office subscription, then we recommend you purchase a professional PDF software that facilitates conversion of documents both ways.

3. Use Adobe Acrobat – Adobe is the organisation that created the PDFs in the first place. The software is designed to convert PDFs into multiple formats and vice versa. It also gives the ability to edit, annotate, merge, delete pages, etc, from a PDF. However, this app is pretty expensive and can cost approximately $240 for a year’s subscription.

Other Precautions To be Considered

Malware is a dangerous thing that can not only disrupt your work but also your life as well. You must stop using free software and online converters. Also, ensure that your PC is protected by a powerful antivirus software that monitors your PC on a real-time basis. You can choose any one among Norton Antivirus, McAfee, or Systweak Antivirus.

What To Do If You Feel Your PC Has Been Compromised?

If you have become the victim or feel that your data might have been compromised, then follow this checklist below.

  • Take a deep breath and analyse the situation, making a list of what data could be compromised.
  • Initiate an antivirus scan on your PC to remove any malware. Remember to check if the antivirus app is fully updated.
  • Contact your financial institutions’ toll-free number and ask them to help you out with this.
  • Format your PC if you can or seek help from a computer specialist.
  • Reset any passwords, PINs, and other credentials after you have formatted the PC.
  • Make sure to file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

Public Wi-Fi is a boon in smart cities, where you can stay connected to the internet wherever you go. You need not use expensive mobile data, as you would receive a free Wi-Fi connection. Places like airports, train stations, cafes, shopping malls, and all other commonly visited places have it. However, threat actors have converted this boon into a bane by creating a web of malicious activities around Public Wi-Fi.

This is the statistics of data that got compromised using public Wi-Fi in the United States

This is why most security experts warn users to connect to private networks. However, if the situation arises and you must connect, you must verify that you are connected to the correct network and that your device is loaded with tools that will help protect your data.

This guide is designed for people who have to use public Wi-Fi at some point to keep their devices and data protected from hackers.

What Is Public Wi-Fi

It refers to wireless internet networks that are available for use by the general people, typically in coffee shops, airports, libraries, hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, and other widespread areas. These networks are often provided free of charge or for a small fee and allow users to access the internet wirelessly on their mobiles or laptops. However, as said, this free service can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars yet people use it because –

  • Either they don’t have a data connection or are out of cellular data.
  • They want to access social media and save their data.
  • Make calls using apps like WhatsApp, Facetime, etc.
  • Be online while traveling.
  • Stream content while minimizing the use of cellular data.
  • Work remotely from a cafe
  • Play games
  • Make financial transaction
  • Study

Here is a statistic provided by Forbes that shows the percentage of people using public wi-fi for different purposes.

What Are The Risks Of Using a Public Wi-Fi Network

These networks aren’t safe, but not all fall into the same category. Identifying which is safe and which isn’t is not easy. So you can say all free Wi-Fi’s are unsafe, and here are some common risks of using it:

  • Hackers can use tools to intercept the data transmitted over public Wi-Fi and access sensitive information such as passwords, personal data, or financial details.
  • Cybercriminals can position themselves between the user and the network, altering communications or stealing data.
  • Some hackers set up fake Wi-Fi networks with names similar to legitimate public hotspots, tricking users into connecting. Once connected, the attacker can monitor or steal personal information.
  • Cybercriminals can use unsecured networks to distribute malware. If they gain access to an open network, they might inject malicious software into your device.
  • If you’re logged into a website or service (like email or banking) while connected to free Wi-Fi, a hacker could hijack your session and gain unauthorized access to your accounts by stealing your session cookies or credentials.

Is It Safe To Use A Public Wi-Fi Network That Isn’t Password-Protected

No, it is not safe. But if you need to access the internet for something important, you must follow the guidelines on browsing safely using open Wi-Fi.

How To Browse Safely On Public Wi-Fi

We recommend against using free Wi-Fi, but if you have to, take care of the following factors before connecting and surfing the internet.

safe public wifi using systweak vpn

Point 1 – Use a VPN (Virtual Private Network)

A VPN encrypts all your internet traffic, even on an unsecured network, making it much harder for hackers to intercept your data. This is one of the best ways to secure your connection on public Wi-Fi when using a Windows laptop.

I recommend using Systweak VPN. It is a powerful VPN that is compatible with Windows. I‘ve been using it for many years, even while traveling. It also helps me access the web in countries with restrictions. Here are the steps to use this VPN.

1. Download, install, and run Systweak VPN.

2. Create an account and log in.
3. Using Systweak VPN, connect to any server other than your country. Then open the browser and navigate to any website you want to.
4. Now, carry out the activity that you were planning to execute.

Note : We do not recommend opening banking websites on public Wi-Fi.

5. Disconnect when done, and that’s it.

Point 2 – Use HTTPS Websites

Ensure that the websites you visit use HTTPS (not just HTTP). The “S” stands for secure, meaning encrypted communication between your browser and the website. This protects your data from being intercepted.

Point 3 – Avoid Sensitive Transactions

Avoid accessing sensitive accounts (like online banking, email, or shopping) or entering personal information while connected to open Wi-Fi network, especially on unsecured networks.

Point 4 -Turn Off Sharing

Disable file and printer sharing and turn off any settings that allow your device to automatically connect to open networks. This will reduce your risk of unauthorized access to your device.

Point  5 – Use Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Enable 2FA for your online accounts whenever possible. Even if a hacker gains access to your login credentials, they would still need the second factor (like a code sent to your phone) to access your accounts.

Point 6 – Forget the Network After Use

Once you’re done using a public Wi-Fi network, make sure your device forgets it so it won’t automatically connect to it in the future.

Point 7 – Use Real-Time Antivirus Software

Real-time antivirus software monitors your system and prevents malware from entering your PC. It also warns you of suspicious activities and files on your PC that are not classified as malware. Many antivirus software programs are available in the global software market, but we recommend T9 Antivirus. This efficient antivirus helps users detect malware and manage Startup Programs.

Point 8 – Keep Your Device Updated

Whether you use a mobile phone, laptop, or tablet, it is necessary to regularly check for updates on your device and ensure they are completed successfully. All devices, irrespective of the OS (Windows, Android, macOS, iOS) receive regular updates from their manufacturers.

How To Protect Your Data While Using Public Wi-Fi Networks

1 – Use A VPN

VPN helps encrypt all outgoing and incoming traffic on your device using any internet connection. Hence, it is a must to enable a VPN before accessing Public Wi-Fi. On the other hand, it is advised to use a VPN when using a home network as well. This will ensure that your browsing data is encrypted and away from the eyes of your ISP, hackers, marketing agencies, and advertisers.

2 – Use Mobile Data Instead Of Public Wi-Fi

Many experts suggest using mobile phone data to access the internet when you are not close to your office or home Wi-Fi. This may seem to be a bit costlier, but nevertheless, it is very safe. You can also enable Hotspot on your mobile phone and provide a safe internet connection to your laptop or tablet.

3 – Use Strong Passwords

Strong passwords protect your accounts from unauthorized access, especially when using public Wi-Fi. Create complex passwords by combining uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters to make them harder for hackers to guess. Security experts also recommend using unique passwords for each online service to minimize the risk of attackers gaining access to multiple accounts if one password is compromised.

[Conclusion]

To summarize, Public Wi-Fi is not safe and hence is not recommended. But when you have to book tickets online, carry out an important transaction, or reply to an email, you can connect to available free Wi-Fi in case your mobile data is not working. Before connecting, ensure your antivirus and VPN apps are enabled. After you complete your tasks, disconnect from the network and, most importantly, reboot your device. This will help keep your data safe and secure.

FAQs

1. How To Stay Safe On Public Wi-Fi?

Although there is no secure way to use an open network, you can take several precautions to protect your privacy and data. These include using a VPN, enabling two-factor authentication, activating a firewall, and keeping your software up to date.

2. Why Should You Be Careful When Using Public Wi-Fi?

Because these networks are often unsecured, it is easier for hackers to intercept your data, steal personal information, or launch attacks like man-in-the-middle or malware distribution. Always use security measures like a VPN and secure websites (HTTPS) to protect your privacy.

3. Are Open Wifi Networks Safe?

These networks are often unsecured, making them prime targets for cybercriminals who can intercept data transmitted over the network. This includes sensitive information such as financial details, personal data, and passwords. Without adequate encryption and security measures, connecting to open Wi-Fi exposes you to data theft and privacy violations.

4. What can others see when using public Wi-Fi?

Malicious actors may be able to monitor your online activity, such as the websites you visit, the information you enter, and even your device’s MAC (media access control) address, through techniques like packet sniffing. However, your data is generally protected from interception if you’re browsing websites that use HTTPS encryption (indicated by a padlock icon in the browser).

The internet has become much more secure recently, thanks to strict policies for cybercrime and data sharing. However, the job is still unfinished, as internet users encounter several cyber threats. One of the soft targets of these threats is the online gaming community. You may not be aware, but if you are a gamer, there is a high probability that your gaming account may be under cyber threat. Since gaming, for the majority, is a source of leisure, not everyone is vigilant about how their account is being accessed. And this is where cyber threats come in.

You might have heard about threats like data breaches, phishing scams, etc. Well, all these scams can directly affect a gamer, too, considering all your personal information is in the open, in the form of your gaming account.

In this post, let us look at these cyber threats you may encounter while gaming and how to protect your gaming account. Without delay, let’s get started!

Types of Cyber Threats Associated with Your Online Gaming Account

Playing games online seems to be a harmless thing to do, but sadly, it is not. You may wonder what could happen when you share your credentials with an online gaming platform. To understand that, you should know what types of risks surround your gaming account and how they can affect you.

Here are some of the most common cyber threats and risks associated with your gaming account –

1. Phishing Attacks: One of the most common cyber threats is getting users to share sensitive information by tricking them. Everything may be fine with your game. However, one day you might receive an email asking you to reset your password or take action for your gaming account. This email is the trap as it gets you to click on an unknown link that further asks about your personal information. Hackers use phishing to access information that users do not usually share online, such as personal data about security questions, credit card numbers, and contact numbers.

2. Malware Attack: If your gaming account keeps receiving links to download a new game extension or files, this can directly cause an induced malware attack. Now, what is meant by a malware attack? Well, unknown applications are installed on your PC in disguise of game mods and external files to track your usage and access data on your computer. If you always look for game mods and cheat programs to enhance your gaming abilities, beware that these mods are not released through official channels, which is where attackers take advantage. By inducing malware into your PC, attackers can access files from your computer and steal credentials, track your key presses, and whatnot.

3. Online Frauds: Online fraud is another common issue that can be difficult to detect and highly impactful. While playing a game, if you get ads or deals that seem too good to be true, there are chances that they are staged just to scam you. The best example of online fraud can be when an individual engages with you while playing a game and talks you into sending them money or sharing information. You can find a lot of con artists playing the game with you, trying to be friends with you just so they can benefit from you.

4. Payment Scams: These types of scams directly threaten your finances. If you have connected your gaming account with a mode of payment, say Venmo, PayPal, or any other just to buy skins and stuff for your game, chances are that you can get scammed into paying a random attacker. These scammers disguise themselves as authentic platforms and try to access your gaming accounts to find payment information. If someone has access to your gaming account, they can easily send you a fake email or a link to pay for the game, and unknowingly, you will end up paying them instead of paying for the game.

5. Data Breach: If you thought you could only get scammed for money, think about it again! Data breach is one of the most common issues caused by a weak gaming server. In such attacks, the entire gaming server you use is compromised, leaving all your data and information exposed for the attacker to use. This usually happens when you use unprotected internet or your game provider’s server is attacked. Either way, your data can be used to create fake IDs and manipulate others into thinking it’s you, leading to further disasters.

And sadly, these are just some of the identified cyber threats gamers usually face. There are several more threats that you should stay vigilant about. Fortunately, if there are cyber threats to be worried about, there are a few ways to protect yourself. Check out the next section to find some of the best ways to protect your gaming accounts from cyber threats.

Ways to Protect Your Gaming Account from Cyber Threats

Staying up to date with the latest security updates is definitely one of them; however, it is just not enough. After learning about the types of scams and threats, you might have an idea about what you are dealing with and where you may be vulnerable.

Fortunately, there are several things that you can do to protect yourself from becoming a victim of these cyber threats. Check out some of the preventive measures and fixes that will help you protect your gaming account.

1. Authenticate Source Before Downloading/Playing an Online Gaming

Verifying that the platform you are using to play the game is authentic or the website from which you are downloading the game is genuine plays a crucial role. An attacker plants a fake game setup in several ways so you can download it and get trapped. To ensure that you do not become a victim of a similar issue, here’s what you can do –

  • Check the website’s security certificate to ensure that it is secure. Look for HTTPS in the URL.
  • Scroll down to the footer to find the copyright information. Usually, hackers try to fake an authentic website without a copyright.
  • Ensure that the website does not contain unnecessary ads. A website selling your games does not have to show you spam ads for revenue; it is a red flag.
  • Give the URL a quick Google search to find reviews and discussions.
  • Learn more about the game before downloading it to know exactly what you want. Identify the setup size so you instantly know if the file you are downloading is genuine or just a small-sized malware planted to attack you.

2. Keep Antivirus Definitions Up to Date

If you are using an antivirus on your PC, make sure you keep it regularly updated. Keep your Windows versions updated, too, so that the defender can easily detect the errors and help you identify threats when it detects any. Cyber attackers usually keep updating their threats according to the latest security patches to appear as genuine as possible and not trigger a warning for the user. Hence, to outsmart them before they outsmart you, you must –

  • Keep checking for updates every 7 days.
  • Keep your OS updated with the latest security patch, and install even the most minute update.
  • Regularly scan your PC with both Defender and third-party antivirus.

Editor’s Recommendation – Use T9 Antivirus for additional security.

3. Avoid Clicking Random Ads that You May Find While Playing an Online Game

If you are someone who gets curious about the ads you see while playing, then chances are that you will struggle and easily fall into the trap. Avoid clicking on ads that keep appearing out of nowhere, as these may take you to a website or get you to download a file that is nothing more than malware. By chance, when these files get to your system, you might regret it as all your data and personal files are exposed.

Some ways you can protect your gaming account from unnecessary ads are –

  • Use an Ad blocker that can help you avoid these ads altogether.
  • If there is an Ad related to a game offer or discount, check its legitimacy on official platforms before getting excited and clicking on it.
  • Instantly use the cross to prevent these ads from flashing if they bother your experience.

4. Use a VPN to Ensure a Secure and Isolated Connection

One of the most vulnerable factors while playing an online game is your IP getting exposed. The IP address serves as your information online; hence, if an attacker gets their hands on your IP address, they can easily identify a lot about you and your gameplay. The best way to handle this is by using a VPN.

A VPN helps you with a different IP address that covers your original one so that it is impossible to track you or your computer/ This way, your personal information stays safe, too. The best way to protect yourself with a VPN is to –

  • Use a reliable VPN client that offers you a reliable range of servers.
  • Always remember to enable the VPN before you start playing your games online.
  • Keep your VPN credentials secure so no one can disable or use them in your absence.

5. Always Check Terms & Conditions Before Agreeing for Permissions

Several online games use your personal information with consent. Games you log in via social media usually require access to your personal information. However, you are not always aware of how these services use the data. Sometimes, the data required is just your email address to send you newsletters and updates; others can keep track of your messages, photos you share, and whatnot. Hence, you must check and track the confidentiality clause before registering on a platform.

  • Read the privacy policy thoroughly to understand how your data is used.
  • Pay attention while allowing the game permissions and check if it is asking to access something that may be useless to the gameplay.
  • When playing online, review the cookies policy just to be safe.

Other than these, you always have the option to use a pseudo account for your gaming purposes. That way, you not only avoid a direct breach of your personal information but are also relaxed as there is not much to lose in case of a cyberattack. Needless to say, this is one of the major reasons why “usernames” were introduced in almost every online game.

Are you trying to connect to the internet, but your Wi-Fi connection keeps showing a yellow mark that says No Internet Secure? Well. This is not unusual as the error is common and occurs now and then. It usually happens when there’s an issue with the secured wireless network being used on your PC. While it may appear to be a frustrating issue, considering you can connect to an internet source if the network is unavailable, there are only a few simple steps you can use to fix it.

Meaning of not Secure Internet Connection

It ideally means that the connection on your PC cannot access the Internet. The term No Internet Secured refers to the inability of the connection to secure a workable network for accessing the Internet. The issue becomes trickier as the issue is different from the connection, encryption, or the range of your WiFi router that you can directly resolve.

So, how do you connect to secured Wi-Fi on a laptop? We have curated a bunch of fixes that may help you get rid of the error easily. Check them out below.

How to Solve No Secured Internet Problem in Wi-Fi

To give you a perspective, the error lies with the quality of the internet available, not with your connection. However, checking all the possible factors involved in the process is fine. Try the following fixes one after the other to work towards a healthy internet connection. If you worry that any changes in the settings will hamper your PC, then do not worry, as all the steps shown are reversible.

With all of that confusion out of the way, let’s begin!

In a short of time, watch this video –

Fix 1 – Refresh Your IP Configuration

Step 1 – Go to the Start Menu of your PC and look for CMD. type cmd in search box

Step 2 – From the search results, choose Command Prompt and use the run as administrator option to launch it.
Step 3 – After launching the application, use the following commands one after the other and let it refresh the IP configuration of your PC –

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

Restart your PC to give it a quick memory refresh, and the error should be resolved.

Fix 2 – Reset Windows Sockets IP

Another command that can help you refresh your PC’s internet connection at a deeper level and allow you to fix the issues is the Winsock reset. Here’s how you perform it on Windows –

Step 1 – Go to the Start Menu of your PC and look for CMD.
Step 2 – From the search results, choose Command Prompt and use the run as administrator option to launch it.
Step 3 – After launching the application, use the following commands one after the other and let it refresh the IP configuration of your PC –

netsh winsock reset catalog

After you have run the command, you can wait for the internet to disconnect and reconnect to your PC. The issue related to your internet connection should now be resolved.

Fix 3 – Manage Adapter Options

If you have changed a few settings on your PC related to internet and WiFi adapters, you must check them again and ensure that all of them are fine. Sometimes, the issue is not what we think it is, and to fix it our way, we make things worse.

Step 1 – Press Win+I to open System Settings and navigate to Network & Internet settings.

Network & Internet tab

Step 2 – From internet settings, navigate to WiFi and then move to Hardware Properties.
Step 3—In Hardware Properties, click on the Edit button corresponding to the Manage Adapter options, and you will see all the current settings.
Step 4 – From the settings, check and ensure that all the following settings are enabled –

  • Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder
  • Client for Microsoft Networks
  • Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
  • File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

wifi properties

Make sure that the boxes in front of these settings are checked. If any of these were unchecked, enable them now and then save the changes you made.

Pro Tip: If all the settings were already enabled, check if the connection uses IPv6. If that is enabled, disable it right away, and you will be good to go!

Fix 4 – Check Your VPN Connection

If you have been using a VPN connection on your PC, make sure that you check whether it is working fine. Usually, the No Internet Secured error appears when a user is on VPN and using a server with a lot of congestion or is too slow to handle requests.

The error usually appears with free VPN clients, who are no longer obligated to provide their users with the best available server. The best way to handle this issue is to change your server while using the VPN  or change your VPN client if the issue persists.

We recommend using Systweak VPN, a well-crafted client that offers 250+ genuine servers from across the globe. Using it, you can easily connect to the Internet and resolve your PC’s wifi not secure error.

The best part is that Systweak VPN offers military-grade encryption to keep your data safe and sound. Install it today and fix the No Internet Secured error instantly!

Fix 5 – Disable IPv6

There are several instances when your Internet connection is not functioning properly. It happens due to misconfiguration in the adapter properties. One of the most common ways to fix the No Internet Secure error on a Windows PC is to disable the IPv6 protocol. Here are the steps that can help you do the same –

Step 1 – Press Win+I to open the System settings.
Step 2 – From system settings, click on Wi-Fi and then navigate to Hardware Properties.
Step 3—In the hardware properties, you find basic information about the adapter you are using. However, you can also see More Adapter Options with an Edit button. Click on it.

wifi properties
Step 4—From the opened window, scroll down to the Networking tab and check if IPv6 is disabled.
Step 5 – If it is enabled, uncheck the device and save the changes.

This works for many users with Windows 11 PCs. Try running the steps and checking if the issue is resolved. If it is not, you can enable IPv6 again.

Fix 6 – Try Changing the DNS Server

Another interesting thing you can do is change your DNS for the network. Sometimes, the Domain Name System is not correctly configured, which often causes your internet to land in an unknown zone, resulting in poor network performance.

There are multiple ways you can change the DNS of your Windows PC. Check out this detailed blog to find them. With the help of these methods, you can easily change DNS servers and enhance the internet performance of your PC. Needless to say, you must identify exactly which server you want to use and note the address for the same!

Fix 7 – Update Network Drivers

Last but not least, you should try checking your network drivers for updates. When the drivers are outdated, the overall performance of your network adapter declines, and hence, you may come across multiple issues, including the No Internet Secured error. The easiest way to check for driver updates is to use Device Manager. However, the steps are lengthy, and the entire process is manual. Here are the steps –

Step 1 – Press Win+r to launch Run.
Step 2 – Use Devmgmt.msc to open Device Manager.
Step 3 – In Device Manager, look for Network Adapters.

Device Manager
Step 4 – Find the adapter that you are currently using to connect.
Step 5 – Right-click on it to find the Update Driver option.
Step 6 –  From the Update Wizard, select the Automatic option and let Windows find the updates.
Step 7 – Install the updates if found.

The process usually works; however, sometimes, the Windows Driver Updater utility may not work as expected. That is when you can use driver updaters to get the job done.

If you want an automated way to update the driver, follow the steps mentioned in below infographic –

Additional Fixes

Other than the above 7 fixes, you may also try the following fixes  that may not be directly affecting your issue but may be responsible for the unsecured network error –

  • If the No Internet Secured error has appeared recently after installing a particular app, Uninstall the Application.
  • Try checking your Wi-Fi router and restart it.
  • Try switching to a LAN connection to identify if the issue is with the WiFi adapter or the connection.

After all these fixes, you should be able to get rid of the “Wi-Fi not secure” error. If you are worried about losing your data while turning off or switching your VPN, we assure you that Systweak VPN takes complete care of data leaks and ensures that your IP and other information stay secure.

Try these fixes, and let us know if you face any issues following the steps via the comments section below. Thanks for reading. This is all for this post. Good luck!

As per Microsoft, the 22H2 iteration of Windows 10 will be the last iteration of the OS, as they plan to discontinue it in 2025. The last free security updates for users will be rolled out by October 14th, 2025, which will mark the end of support for Windows 10. Netizens have different opinions on this. For some, Windows 10 has been the ultimate OS with a balance of everything, while others struggle to digest the news.

Undoubtedly, Windows 10 has been one of the most popular and preferred Windows operating systems after Windows 7. This clearly shows that users love using their Windows 10 PCs. In fact, even after the release of Windows 11, several users still use Windows 10 and decided to never upgrade, but with this news, they are confused and looking for answers to –

  • Does this mean after October 2025, I will not be able to use Windows 10?
  • What should I do if I don’t want to upgrade?

Fortunately, we have the answers. By the end of this post, you will have the answers to all your questions about Microsoft ending update support for Windows 10 in 2025.

End of Support for Windows 10: What Does it Mean

In simple words, the end of support for Windows 10 refers to the free features and security updates that Microsoft provides for its products. Released in 2015, Windows 10 can be considered a legacy operating system for Microsoft thanks to its cutting-edge features and design.

On Windows 10, you will no longer receive feature updates or the latest security patches. This means your PC will no longer be secure. However, you can continue using Windows 10.

The way this end of support will work is quite simple to understand if we break it down into the factors that matter. These factors include –

  • Usability: Windows 10 will still be usable for users who do not want to upgrade. However, the security updates here will be a deal breaker for many.
  • Features & Security: After October 14, 2025, Windows 10 will no longer offer feature upgrades. However, you can still subscribe to a payment plan to receive extended security updates.
  • Hardware Support: If your current hardware supports Windows 10, you should not worry; it will keep working properly. Microsoft will still offer you a free Windows 11 upgrade.
  • Privacy: If you are using a Windows operating system that has reached its end support stage, you should be concerned about device security as it is no longer available.

After identifying these factors, you might have understood what this Microsoft move holds for you. If you have not upgraded for business reasons (several businesses/companies are using Windows 10), you can opt for a paid security updates plan available for LTSC users.

Should You Upgrade to Windows 11? Honest Opinion!

Now that you know what End of Support means for Windows 10, you may wonder whether you should upgrade to Windows 11. The only answer to this question is that it completely depends on you! You see, Windows has left a clear option here for people who want to stick to Windows 10: paid security updates!

So, if you are an organization that has been working on Windows 10 for a while and has no plans to upgrade or move to a newer OS, opting for paid security updates seems a viable option. At the same time, if you are worried about your personal computer, you can also skip the upgrade, at least for now, as Windows has a great history of extending its support cycle as an “exception.”

The main idea is that moving from Windows 10 to 11 is not just an OS choice. For many users, it is also an upgrade in hardware. If you are one of those users who got their PCs back in 2015/16 with the latest Windows 10, the resources on your device may be overwhelmed with Windows 11 and might not handle them properly.

Hence, if you plan to upgrade, ensure you upgrade your device or at least the resources (like SSD, RAM, ROM, etc.) it uses. The Windows 11 minimum resource requirements are as follows –

  • 1Ghz 64-bit dual-core processor
  • 4GB RAM
  • 64GB Drive (SSD Preferred)
  • 1366×768 resolution
  • UEFI, Secure Boot & TPM 2.0 compatible
  • DirectX 12 compatible graphics / WWDM 2.x

If you have resources, there’s no point in sticking to an operating system that has reached its end of support. Upgrade to Windows 11 for free and enjoy the latest security and feature updates.

What to Do When Microsoft Ends Support for Windows 10? Weighing Your Options!

Knowing that 14th October  2025 is the tentative last date for Windows 10 support, what options do you have as a user? Well, there are several things you can do. Let’s look at all the options available to you, just so you can identify the most viable option.

Option 1. Upgrade

The first option is to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11. However, as discussed previously, it is not that simple for every user, considering resource constraints. In that case, you will have to upgrade your machine, which will put a dent in your pocket, so make sure you are prepared for that if you upgrade.

Option 2. Pay for Security Updates

Another option is to pay for extended security updates just to be safe. The fee to extend security updates until 2026 is set at $30; however, you cannot determine whether the same price will continue for subsequent upgrades.

Option 3. Move

Another option you can consider is moving from Windows to a different operating system. If your machine has reached its end or is unable to upgrade to Windows 11, you are bound to change it. Hence, you always have the option to move from Windows to macOS or Linux. It depends completely on your usage and affordability. However, if you have been wanting to move but were stuck due to the limitations of the machine, this can be your chance!

Option 4. Stay Vigilant

Last but not least, if you find it difficult to upgrade your machine, you’ll have to be vigilant while using Windows 10 without security upgrades. We do not recommend it for a business PC however if it is your personal computer, you can try using Windows 10 without the security updates, provided you do not visit any harmful/unsecure websites. Being vigilant or using third-party programs like a Systweak VPN can help avoid unnecessary consequences. However, keep in mind that this option should only be used for a limited time until you can upgrade.

EOL Windows 10: The End or a New Beginning?

Choose what you plan to do accordingly. With Windows 10’s end of support approaching, confusion is bound to occur. This change is definitely going to be an end for many and a new beginning for several Windows users. It solely depends on your requirements and comfort.

With this post, we aim to ensure you know precisely what End of Support for Windows 10 means and your options. We will keep you updated with the latest developments in the process and ensure you make the correct choice. For further assistance or queries, please comment below, and we will reply soon!

Wi-Fi has become the most common way of staying connected. The connectivity mode can now be found everywhere and is not limited to offices or home facilities. From a basic bus station to the luxurious first-class lounge at the airport, people first consider whether they have free Wi-Fi access. While it has surely made connectivity accessible to everyone, it has also made people vulnerable to identity theft and data logging. Wi-Fi logging is one of the core reasons for this.

Several users believe they are safe only when using a VPN or incognito mode on their PCs. However, none of these measures are helpful when it comes to Wi-Fi router logging. Some users are unaware that the router is creating a log of every activity they do.

In this post, we will examine Wi-Fi router logging in more detail to understand what it is, how it affects you, and, most importantly, how to avoid it!

What is Wi-Fi Router Logging? Why is it a Threat

WiFi router Logging poses a closer threat to your security and privacy, considering everything you browse while staying connected to the Wi-Fi can be tracked. How? Well, your router keeps a log of all the addresses you visit. And if anyone can access your router, they can peek into your history.

You should be aware that Wi-Fi router logging is common for some routers. It varies from brand to brand. However, someone might have a router that logs activity. In that case, the administrator of the Wi-Fi router can directly access your device information, IP address, visited web addresses, etc.

While it emerged as a feature that helps your ISP troubleshoot internet errors when required, it is a significant threat to privacy. Even your internet service provider has access to websites you visit. More importantly, they can track your IP address, unlocking user information.

Here are some of the cases where Wi-Fi routers can be termed as a threat –

Case 1—When using a network to make Wi-Fi calls and messages on an app that does not use encryption, the router administrator can access the logs of each call made and message sent.

Case 2—The Wi-Fi router logs every movement you make while connected to it. This means it will be noted if you reboot the router, update it, or change a setting.

Case 3—Your ISP has access to all your browsing sessions thanks to the logs created by your Wi-Fi router. These logs are created regardless of whether you are using incognito mode.

Case 4—When using public networks, you may not know if your history will be tracked. Using passwords and private information online on a private network may be high risk, as the router you are connected to can log your information. Also, if the number of users is low, these logs can easily lead to the real user.

If you take a closer look at all the cases mentioned above, you may find that while these appear to be simple logging issues, they are actually a complete violation of your privacy. Several companies have acknowledged this and discontinued their router models that came with logging.

Steps to Access Wi-Fi Logs

To access or check if your Wi-Fi router is logging your activities, simply navigate to the internal IP address of your router (usually 192.168.X.X). This IP is used as the security gateway to manage your Wi-Fi functionalities. Once you have logged in, simply look for settings or options where you can find the logs listed under – Logs, System Logs, Security Logs, Session, etc., depending on the network and router providers.

In easy steps –

Step 1 – Open your browser and enter the router IP address in the URL bar.

enter router IP address in browser

Step 2 – Sign in using your credentials. input login details

Step 3 – Look for the settings or find any of these: Logs, System Logs, Security Logs, or Sessions in your router configuration.

router configuration details

With the help of these three steps, you can easily access the logs created and identify the threat on your own. This is definitely a lifesaver, considering you can easily check if someone has changed your configuration or used it in a way that you do not intend. However, external access to the logs can be a real threat to privacy.

How to Avoid These Risks of Wi-Fi Router Logging

Since some users may not like it if someone else knew their web history, the real question arises of how to minimize or avoid these risks. The easiest way to manage these risks is by deleting these logs regularly. However, that is just a manual method that you can follow. On the other hand, if you are worried about getting identified on a public network and leaving a traceable footprint, you can switch to a VPN. While it may not stop the logs, it can manipulate the IP address used and leave the tracker with a dead end.

Steps to Delete Wi-Fi Router Logs:-

Step 1 – Open your browser and enter the router IP address in the URL bar.
Step 2 – Sign in to the admin panel using your credentials.
Step 3 – Look for the settings or find any of these: Logs, System Logs, Security Logs, or Sessions in your router configuration.
Step 4 – Look for the “Clear History” or “Clear Logs” option.
Step  5 – Delete the logs and logout from the admin panel.

If you are using an advanced admin panel or the latest router, you may also find an auto-clear log option that allows you to automatically clear logs at a particular interval. You can set this and forget about the worry.

To delete Wi-Fi router logs, you first need to access them, so you must have the credentials. If you are worried about your home logs, you can delete and manage them regularly. However, if you are in a public place with no access to the router credentials, you can use an IP address that does not directly lead back to you. You can do the same by using a VPN.

Regarding VPN, you need not look far away as Systweak VPN is the best choice. With 256-bit AES encryption and fresh high-speed servers worldwide, Systweak VPN offers the best and most secure experience.

Router logging is definitely a point of concern, especially if you work from home or exchange confidential information on Wi-Fi. Needless to say, staying vigilant is always the best thing you can do to protect yourself from online theft and scams. I hope this post allows you to identify the gap that Wi-Fi router logging creates and helps you minimize the risks that arise with it.

That will be all for this post. Thanks for reading, and good luck!
