What Is A 2.5-Inch Hard Drive

2.5 inch hard drive

A 2.5-inch hard drive is a type of hard disk drive (HDD) with a 2.5-inch form factor, which refers to the drive’s physical size, specifically the diameter of the internal spinning platters. This form factor is smaller and more compact than the larger 3.5-inch hard drives typically found in desktop computers.

What Is A 3.5-Inch Hard Drive

3.5 inch hard drive

A 3.5-inch hard drive is a type of hard disk drive (HDD) with a 3.5-inch form factor, referring to the drive’s physical size, specifically the diameter of its internal platters. This size is commonly used for desktop computers, servers, and data storage systems due to its higher capacity and better performance than smaller drives like the 2.5-inch HDD.

What Are The Differences Between 2.5 And 3.5 Hard Drives

Comparing Size Between 2.5 And 3.5 Hard Drives

The most noticeable difference between these HDDs is their size. A 2.5-inch HDD typically measures around 3 inches, while a 3.5-inch HDD is about 4 inches wide. Overall, 2.5-inch HDDs are smaller in all dimensions—length, width, and height—than 3.5-inch HDDs. They are designed to be compact, making the most of their thinner profile in limited space.

Where Will You Use It –  2.5 And 3.5 Hard Drives

Generally, 2.5-inch HDDs are used in laptops, while 3.5-inch HDDs are primarily found in desktop computers and servers. However, if the desktop has compatible ports, you can connect a 2.5-inch HDD like a 3.5-inch HDD. Some adapters in the market can convert the 3.5-inch port to a 2.5-inch port, but it does not work the other way around. The 2.5-inch hard disks are also used as portable external hard disks and other places where the fitting is compact.

Power Consumption

Another significant difference is their power consumption. The 2.5-inch HDD has smaller mechanical components, allowing it to consume less power than the 3.5-inch HDD, even when both have similar specifications. The read and write power consumption of a 2.5-inch HDD is typically about half that of a 3.5-inch HDD with comparable specs. However, power consumption is generally not a major concern for desktop computers, so 3.5-inch HDDs are commonly used in desktops without any issues related to power usage.

Cache Size

Another difference is the size of the cache or disk buffer, which helps reduce access time. The cache improves data transfer efficiency in and out of the drive, resulting in faster data access. When comparing these 2 HDDs, the 3.5-inch HDD typically offers a larger cache size than a 2.5-inch HDD at the same price.

RPM

Generally, HDDs use standard spin speeds of 5,400 RPM and 7,200 RPM. It’s clear that the higher the RPM, the better the hard drive performance. When comparing 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch HDDs, both support these standard RPMs, but 3.5-inch HDDs are more likely to achieve higher spin speeds. This is due to their larger physical size and higher power consumption, which allow them to accommodate faster rotational speeds more easily than 2.5-inch HDDs.

Which One Has A Larger Capacity

Generally, 3.5-inch HDDs offer a much wider range of storage capacities than 2.5-inch HDDs. It’s rare to find a 2.5-inch hard drive larger than 2TB, largely because SSDs have become more affordable. As of May 2024, Western Digital’s largest 2.5-inch HDD is 6TB, while 3.5-inch HDDs can reach capacities of up to 32TB.

Also Read – Is Hard Drive Full? How To Find Large Files on Windows 10

Comparing Data Transfer Speed

Generally, the data transfer speed of 3.5-inch HDDs is higher than that of 2.5-inch HDDs. One reason is that 3.5-inch HDDs can store more sectors per track on the disk platter. Therefore, when the spin speed is the same, a 3.5-inch HDD can read more sectors than a 2.5-inch HDD, enabling it to transfer more data and files. For example, most 3.5-inch HDDs operate at 7,200 RPM, providing faster data transfer rates, typically ranging from 80MB/s to 160MB/s for read and write speeds. In contrast, a 2.5-inch HDD with 5,400 RPM typically offers around 100MB/s for both read and write speeds.

Which Is More Costlier

Price is an important factor when choosing between these 2 hard drives. Generally, 2.5-inch HDDs are more expensive than 3.5-inch HDDs due to their Compact, smaller, and intricate design, which helps them consume less power.

Shock Resistance

Laptops typically use more shock-resistant HDDs, making 2.5-inch HDDs more resistant to physical shocks than 3.5-inch HDDs. Additionally, 2.5-inch HDDs may be equipped with accelerometers that detect if the drive is dropped and immediately park the read/write heads to reduce the risk of damage from the impact. If a hard drive suffers physical damage, its data and files will likely be lost and not recoverable. Therefore, shock resistance is an important factor to consider when choosing a hard drive.

Adapters

A 2.5-inch HDD can be used in a 3.5-inch chassis with the help of a hard drive adapter, but a 3.5-inch HDD cannot be used in a 2.5-inch chassis. Additionally, you can install a 2.5-inch HDD into a 3.5-inch slot, but a 3.5-inch HDD cannot be installed into a 2.5-inch slot.

Which One Makes Less Noise

Faster spinning drive motors produce higher-pitched sounds. While all hard drives generate some noise, 3.5-inch HDDs are more noticeable, often producing a low humming sound or chatter during data writing or reading. The sounds made by hard drives can vary depending on their usage. However, if you hear grinding or other unusual noises, it may signal a potential issue.

Solid State Drives

Solid-state drives (SSDs), which utilize flash memory chips instead of spinning magnetic platters, almost universally come in a 2.5-inch form factor, regardless of whether they are designed for desktops or laptops. The compact size of these drives is due to the high data density and relatively high cost of flash memory. Simply put, filling a 3.5-inch enclosure with enough flash memory to match the capacity of traditional HDDs would result in a drive that has an extremely high capacity and is costly enough to be considered a niche product.

WhatsApp is the most commonly used Instant Messaging app across the globe. However, this app is not without errors, and one such error is the We Couldn’t Send An SMS To Your Number” received on WhatsApp, which does not allow users to log in to WhatsApp on their device. Today, we will help our readers fix this issue using many methods that have worked for others. Also, we will introduce the “Message To Unknown Numbers” app that will help users send WhatsApp messages to unsaved contacts.

Best Methods To Fix The “We Couldn’t Send An SMS To Your Number”

Method 1 – Reboot Phone

Experts suggest that this error on WhatsApp might be due to a temporary glitch and can be resolved by a simple restart. Just reboot the phone, use WhatsApp to resend the SMS, and check if the issue has been resolved. Otherwise, move to the next step.

restart phone

Method 2 – Reinstall WhatsApp

There could be a glitch with the current installation. Hence, we suggest that you uninstall WhatsApp by long-tapping the WhatsApp icon and then tapping on Uninstall. Use the Google Play Store app to install WhatsApp.

reinstall whats app

Method 3 – Verify Your Region Code And Phone Number

WhatsApp will automatically detect your region, display the correct dialing code, and prompt you to enter your mobile number. Ensure you enter the correct number to receive the security code.

Method 4 – Verify WhatsApp’s Servers

The problem might be on WhatsApp’s side. Visit Downdetector and search for WhatsApp to see if there are any server issues. If so, you’ll need to wait for them to be resolved.

Method 5 – Toggle Between Wi-Fi And Mobile Data

A weak network connection could be the issue. Try toggling between Wi-Fi and mobile data. You can also briefly enable and disable Airplane mode on your phone to reset the connection.

toggle Wi-Fi and mobile data

Method 6 – Verify with a Missed Call or Email ID

You can verify your identity using a missed call or email ID if you haven’t received the WhatsApp security code yet. WhatsApp will place a missed call and check your call logs to confirm your identity.

Note : WhatsApp may request permission to access your call logs.

1. Open WhatsApp, enter your mobile number, and tap Next.
2. Tap Continue to verify your number.continue whats app

Verification via email ID is only available if you previously added an email address during WhatsApp setup or enabled two-factor authentication. Simply choose the option to receive the code via email.

Method 7 – Install The WhatsApp Business App To Get A Code

Although this method may seem a bit unconventional, experts recommend it due to its success rate. Don’t worry, you won’t need to switch to WhatsApp Business; you’ll just use the app temporarily to resolve the issue. Once you receive the code, don’t use it on WhatsApp. Instead, return to the regular WhatsApp app and request the code again.

Method 8 – Use A Different Device To Get The WhatsApp SMS Code

Install WhatsApp on another device or add your account to an existing app. I attempted to get the code but remembered not to enter it on the secondary device. Instead, go back to the primary device and try the verification again. Hopefully, you’ll receive the security code without any issues this time.

Method 9 – WhatsApp Server Might Have Blocked Your Number

If the error occurs after multiple failed attempts, the WhatsApp server may block your device from getting the SMS. In this case, you’ll need to wait 24 to 48 hours for the block to be lifted automatically. Unfortunately, nothing can be done to speed up this process.

Method 10 – New SIM or eSIM Activated

If you’ve recently activated a new SIM or eSIM, SMS services may be temporarily unavailable. In some countries, mobile carriers impose restrictions on new SIM cards or after mobile number portability (MNP) to prevent misuse, which can prevent you from sending SMS messages.

Method 11 – Change The Network Selection To Manual From Automatic

Some experts have suggested that shifting the Network Selection from automatic to manual can help fix this issue. Follow these steps –

1. Tap on Settings.
2. Next, tap on Connections.tap on Connections

3. Tap on Mobile Networks.Tap on Mobile Networks
4. Then tap on Network Operators.Tap on Network Operators
5. Toggle off the button next to “Select Automatically.”Select Automatically toggle button
6. A list of networks will be presented. Tap on your network to select it.list of available networks

Method 12 – Contact WhatsApp

If you still cannot receive the WhatsApp security code, your last option is to contact WhatsApp support for assistance.

Bonus Tip – Use Message To Unknown Number App To Send WhatsApp To Unknown Number

If you wish to send a WhatsApp message to a number that is not saved in your contacts, it is not possible until you save it. WhatsApp does not allow users to send messages to unknown numbers. However, with the Message To Unknown Number app, you can send a WhatsApp message to any mobile number anywhere in the world. Here is a quick guide on using this app.

1. Download Message To Unknown Number from the Google Play Store.
2. After the installation, click the shortcut to open the app’s UI.
message to unknown number install

3. Type the recipient’s country code and phone number on the following page. Avoid using multiple zeros or the + symbol before the country code.
4. Select Send Message at the bottom of the screen.

enter mobile number in app

5. You’ll have the option of using WhatsApp in Chrome or opening your WhatsApp app. To avoid making this decision again, select the App Icon and ensure it is set to Always.
6. WhatsApp will launch the individual discussion screen for the phone number you gave in Step 3. By touching on the paper clip icon, you may attach photos, music, and video clips to a saved contact and input a text message.

Message To Unknown Number is a free-to-use app with an intuitive interface that is simple and quick. It is lightweight, does not require permissions, and supports Android and iOS.

Are You Able To Receive SMS From WhatsApp?

We hope that the above techniques have helped to resolve the issue. If not, you can request a phone call from WhatsApp to receive your verification code instead of a text message. In the comments section below, let us know which method helped you fix the issue.

The Get Help app in Windows is a centralized place to access a wide range of troubleshooting articles, tutorials, guides, and Microsoft support. However, if you try to use it and see a blank page or get a message, “Something went wrong on our end. We’re working on it,” you are reading the right post. Today, we will discuss the best possible methods to fix this issue on Windows.

Why Your Get Help App is Showing Blank Screen

  1. Bugs and glitches in the software
  2. Corrupt or missing system files
  3. Poor or unstable internet connection
  4. Issues with Windows updates

Tried & Tested Solutions To Fix The Get Help App Is Blank On Windows 11

1. Press Windows + I to access Settings.
2. Windows Update > Check for Updates > and install any available update.

Solution #8 Run Microsoft Store App Troubleshooter

Windows provides a built-in troubleshooter to detect and fix common problems with app installation, permissions, and configurations. To fix issues with the Get Help app, run it and see if it helps.

1. In the Windows search bar, type Fix Windows Store.
2. This will open the Microsoft Store Apps troubleshooter. Click Next to proceed, and wait for it to detect and fix problems.Microsoft Store Apps troubleshooter

Another possibility is that the website is temporarily down or undergoing maintenance. Let us check all the methods to fix this issue.

What Is The Meaning of the Error

The error in Chrome indicates that the browser cannot connect to the requested website. This usually means that Chrome tries to contact the site’s server, but something interferes with the connection. Common reasons for this error include:

  • Your device may not be connected to the internet, or there may be a problem with your local network.
  • The website might be temporarily unavailable or undergoing maintenance.
  • The Domain Name System (DNS) might be unable to decode the website’s address.

Recommended Solutions For “This Site Can’t Be Reached” Error On Windows PC

Method 1: Verify Other Websites

To confirm your internet connection is working, begin by visiting other websites, such as google.com or bing.com. If you can’t access any sites, your internet may be down. Contact Your ISP to resolve the issue.

Method 2: Verify The Website’s Server Status

Utilize online tools like Down for Everyone or Just Me to determine if the issue is unique to you or affecting all users. If it’s only you experiencing the problem, it likely indicates an issue with your internet connection, network devices, or computer.

Method 3: Verify The URL For Typo Errors

Make sure you haven’t made any typos in the website address. A mistake or misspelling in the domain name or URL can result in DNS errors like DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN.

Method 4: Clear Cache And Cookies

Browsers save temporary data to enhance connection speeds, but corrupted or outdated cache and cookies can hinder site loading. Clearing your browser data can help resolve this issue. Here’s how to clear Chrome’s cache:

Step 1: Open Chrome browser and click on the three dots in the top right corner.
Step 2: Click on Delete Browsing Data from the dropdown list.
Step 3: A new box will appear. Ensure that the Time Range is set to All Time and click on the Delete Data button.
Step 4: Close your browser and relaunch it to check if the issue persists.

Editor’s Tip: Use Advanced System Optimizer

Similar to how cookies and cache can cause problems while browsing the internet, accumulated junk and temporary and unwanted files on your PC can hinder its performance and prevent it from running optimally. To keep your computer in top shape and ensure peak performance, consider using Advanced System Optimizer—a comprehensive PC optimization tool. Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Download Advanced System Optimizer From Here.
Step 2: Open the software and click the Start Smart PC Care button.
Step 3: Wait for the scan to complete and find issues on your system.
Step 4: Click on the Optimize button.
Step 5: Sit back and relax, and the Advanced System Optimizer will optimize your PC.

Method 5: Use Another Device To Access The Website

Check the website on a different device to see if the issue is with your computer or internet connection. Try accessing the site using your mobile device’s data connection. If it loads successfully, it likely indicates that the problem is with your network connection or computer.

Method 6: Power Cycle Your Router/Modem

If the Website does not open on another device but does open on your mobile connected to a mobile data connection, then there is something wrong with your internet connection. A simple reboot will fix these issues. Here are the steps:

1. First, turn off your computer.
2. Locate your modem and router. If they are separate devices, unplug both from the power source.
3. Leave the devices unplugged for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. This allows any residual power to dissipate and helps reset the devices.
4. Plug in the Router/Modem and wait for them to fully reboot. This usually takes a few minutes; you’ll know it’s ready when the indicator lights are stable.
5. Once both devices are powered back on and stable, turn on your computer and reconnect other devices to the network.
6. Open your browser and check if you can access the internet.

Method 7: Troubleshoot your Network

Microsoft provides Windows users with certain Troubleshooters to fix issues within Windows OS. Today, we will use the Network and Internet troubleshooter to fix this issue. Here are the steps:

1. Press Win + X to open the Power menu and choose Settings.
2. Click on System in the left panel. Scroll down in the right section and click on Troubleshoot.

Bluetooth Troubleshooter Run Button

Step 1. Press `Win + R` on your Windows computer to open the Run dialog.

Step 2. Type `ncpa.cpl` and press Enter.
Step 3. Right-click on your Ethernet connection and select “Properties.”
Step 4. Double-click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).”
Step 5. Ensure that “Obtain DNS server address automatically” and “Obtain an IP address automatically” are selected, then click “OK.”
Step 6. Check if this resolves your issue. If not, proceed to the next step.
Step 7. Select “Use the following DNS server addresses” and enter Google’s public DNS addresses: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

internet protocol version 4 properties box
Step 8. Click “OK” and check if your internet access is restored.

Method 9: Flush DNS

Flushing the DNS cache on Windows can resolve issues related to outdated or corrupt DNS entries. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Press `Win + S` to open the search bar and type `cmd` or `Command Prompt.`
Step 2: Right-click “Command Prompt” in the search results and select `Run as administrator.` This will open the Command Prompt with elevated privileges.
Step 3:  In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:

 ipconfig /flushdns

Step 4: You should see a message indicating that the DNS Resolver Cache has been successfully flushed.
Step 5: After you see the confirmation message, you can close the Command Prompt window.

Method 10: Reset Your Network Settings

If the previous solutions do not resolve the “Ethernet is connected to the network but no internet” error, you may need to reset your network settings. This action will restore all network configurations on your PC to their default settings, which could help fix the issues you’re experiencing.

To reset the network settings in Windows, open the Settings app, go to Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset, and click Reset now.

Network Reset

Method 11:  Use Incognito Mode

Incognito or private browsing mode acts as a stealth feature for your browser. It bypasses cached data and extensions, making it helpful for troubleshooting issues.

To open an incognito window (Ctrl+Shift+N in Chrome, Ctrl+Shift+P in Firefox), try accessing the website again. If it loads successfully, this suggests that an extension or cached data may be the source of the problem.

Method 12: Update Browser

1. Launch the browser and click on the hamburger menu in the top right corner.
2. Hover the mouse on Help and click on About Google Chrome.
3. The Chrome Update will start automatically.

Method 13: Disable Extensions

While extensions improve the browsing experience, they can sometimes interfere with the browser’s normal operation. You can disable all extensions to determine if an extension is causing an issue. If this resolves the problem, you can enable each extension individually to identify the one causing the conflict.

1. Launch the browser and click on the hamburger menu in the top right corner.
2. Hover over Extensions and select Manage Extensions.Manage-Extensions
3. A new tab will open; to disable each extension, slide the toggle buttons under them to the left.

Method 14: Reset Browser

The error should no longer appear after clearing the browser cache, disabling extensions, and updating the browser. However, if it persists, you may need to reset the browser by following these steps:

1. Launch the browser and click on the hamburger menu in the top right corner.
2. From the dropdown menu, select Settings, then choose Reset Settings from the left panel.

Hamburger menu Reset Settings
3. In the right panel, click on Reset Settings, and then confirm by clicking the Reset Settings button.

reset setting confirmation selection prompt

Method 15: Use Alternate Browser

If the problem continues after reinstalling the browser, consider using an alternative browser. Remember that Chrome, Edge, and Opera are all based on the same Chromium engine, so it may be more effective to try Firefox, which is built on a different platform.
